Meet the new faces of AMP Capital Shopping Centres, The Champions, a typical Australian family, flaws and all.
The head of the Champion clan is Sarah, a 39-year-old fun-loving, caring mother of four: Chloe, 17, Will, 15, and twins Annabel and Charlie, 5. She’s happily married (well, most of the time) to Paul, a financial planner in his mid-40s.
Sarah is the heart of this family, the pulse that keeps it running as smoothly as possible, juggling the household needs with the demands of toddlers and teenagers. Thanks to her parenting and organisational skills, Sarah is finally at the stage in her life where she can find time for herself as well as her family. That time is spent catching up with her girlfriends, shopping for the latest looks and indulging in the odd pampering session.
All take place at her local AMP Capital Shopping Centre, Knox Shopping Centre, the place that solves just about all the family’s problems. It comes to the rescue when Chloe has nothing to wear, when Will needs a new skateboard and when the twins start school. Like her family, Knox Shopping Centre is the constant in her life. It takes care of issues big and small – from what to eat for dinner that night to the latest summer and winter fashions and accessories; from birthday presents for friends and family to Easter treats; from computer accessories to sporting goods; from family nights out in the food court to movies at the cinema; from Mother’s and Father’s Day gifts to Christmas presents for everyone.
Her husband, Paul, is the major breadwinner, though Sarah dabbles in part-time work at her local shopping centre when finances are tight, just like they were during the GFC. He loves his family, the footy, his mates, playing sport and everything electrical. He also loves his shopping centre, and can happily spend hours in gadget and computer shops. On the romance front, he has the odd lapse and has been known to forget Sarah’s birthday. He’ll never do that again!
Daughter Chloe is an aspiring model who spends her spare time shopping, texting, facebooking and thinking about guys. Like all potential stars of the runway, she is obsessed with the consuming passion of fashion. Even though her wardrobe is bulging at the seams, she is forever declaring she has nothing to wear. Any excuse to spend a day at Knox Shopping Centre with girlfriends or her adorable mum!
Son Will likes to hang out, chill with his guitar, go surfing and skateboarding and feast on fast food. Shopping is not high on his agenda unless, of course, mum and dad are forking out then he’s only too happy to hit the surf shops for the latest gear. He’s aiming to leave school early to pursue his dream of being a pro surfer. He’s already got a sponsor. But Sarah and Paul, who know the value of a good education, have other ideas.
The very special twins – Charlie and Annabel – do their best to rule the Champion household. They are a lovable double act, bringing constant mirth and mayhem, whether it’s creating a mess in the kitchen or opening all the presents before Sarah’s surprise birthday party.
Let’s not forget the family pet Millie, a scruffy, fluffy, honey-coloured dog who is much loved by all.
Like every family, the Champions have their dysfunctional moments. That’s what makes them so real, so relatable. Fortunately, Knox Shopping Centre is the one dependable place that meets their everyday needs and wants. For when it comes to shopping, they’re Champions!
