‘It’s a real milestone you can only achieve with dedication, hard work, outstanding staff and customer loyalty,” said Managing Director Richard Robertson. “Before Ted’s came along, there was a noticeable gap in the camera retail market. People needed great deals and the expert service to match, and our focus from day one was to provide this in every way we could,' added Richard who has been with the company for no less than 39 years.
The first store on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne was opened in 1970 and became a household name. Over the years the business has expanded to 23 stores in Victoria, NSW, QLD, SA and ACT .
Ted’s Cameras has notched up a lot of firsts in its 40 years. It was one of the first to introduce off-airport duty free stores, the customer loyalty club like today’s 'Club Ted Card', the first SLR camera with a built-in light meter from Pentax, one-hour photo processing, Kodak’s first digital camera, and the first camera to use Compact Flash.
In 2009 Teds’s introduced state of the art mini lab systems enabling it to produce high-quality photo books, greeting cards and calendars in store in an hour or less. And there are many more firsts too numerous to mention.
Embracing the digital revolution, Ted’s Photolounge and online photo service, enables consumers to store an unlimited number of full resolution photos online for free and share their digital photos online in a variety of ways and creative products such as photo books, posters and calendars.
Ted’s has helped introduce Australia to a whole range of new photography products and services as technology has moved in radical new directions.
It’s the ongoing commitment to bringing Australian consumers the best value products and expertise that has seen Ted’s become the place where Australia shops for cameras
